Abstract
SALES, RAQUEL. (2023). Diversity Analysis Using Morphological Characteristics and Geographical Map of Katuray (Sesbania grandiflora L.) in La Union Province. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Major in Crop Science Specialized in Agronomy. Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, College of Agriculture, Department of Crop Science, Bacnotan, La Union. Adviser: Calimpang, Ison A., M.S Katuray (Sesbania grandiflora L.) is an underutilize leguminous crop that contributes significantly to national food security and the livelihoods of small-scale farmers in the developing world. Despite its potential economic significance, it has not been fully known in La Union due to a lack of information on the genetic background of the cultivated landraces. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to evaluate morphological diversity and geographical mapping of 40 katuray accessions in La Union province using morphological characters. A total of 15 qualitative traits and 13 quantitative traits were assessed. The qualitative traits showed intermediate diversity with an average diversity index of H’=0.39, whereas quantitative traits has an average diversity index of H’=0.63 which indicates that there is a high diversity in terms of quantitative traits which means qualitative traits are less diverse than quantitative traits. Unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) generated a dendrogram that distinctly grouped the 40 katuray accessions into six major clusters based on qualitative and quantitative morphological traits. Unique characteristics was also determined, namely; red and pink color of flower, and black in seed colour. Katuray's geographical mapp alo showed that out of 40 accessios, there are 47.5% white flowers were mainly found in the different municipalities of La Union province followed by red flowers with 37.5%. The preliminary results of this study revealed that katuray accessions in La Union province are diverse.
