Abstract
In the Philippines, farmers still practice manual washing of peanuts and other root crops before delivering to the market. Thus, there is need to develop washing equipment for cleaning freshly harvested crops to meet the market standards and consumer demand. The study aimed to design, fabricate, and evaluate the performance of small-scale batch type peanut washer. The machine’s performance was evaluated with the following parameters: washing capacity, washing efficiency and mechanical physical damage. The research design used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments and three replications. The treatments used were the different diameter of the orifices. The Statistical Tool for Agricultural Research (STAR) was used to analyze the data and to test the significant difference between treatments. The results of the analysis revealed that the capacity of the machine was 150 kg/hr and the washing efficiency was 92.75%. The investment cost of the machine was ₱18,018.00. The economic analysis revealed that the investment cost could be recovered in 140.1 days with a break-even point of 95.22 kg/year.
