| dc.description.abstract | The study focused on the attitude of the respondents towards homosexuals. Homosexual means a male or a female who is sexually attracted with the same gender. Today there is a widespread or increase in the population of homosexuals in DMMMSU. The purpose of this study is to find out the attitude of College of Sciences students towards homosexuals. The attitude towards homosexuals was correlated to age, course, gender and socio-economic status. Specifically, it aimed to find answer to the following questions: 1. What is the demographic profile of the College of Sciences students of DMMMSU in terms of: a. Age; b. Course; c. Gender; and d. Socio-economic status? 2. What is the attitude of the respondents towards homosexuals along the following aspects: a. Peer group relationship; b. Work relationship; c. Marriage; and d. Sexual relationship? 3. Is there a significant relationship between the demographic profile and the attitudes of college of sciences students towards homosexuals at the DMMMSU, Agoo, La Union. The hypothesis was "There is no significant relationship between attitude towards homosexuals and the age, course, gender and socioeconomic status. This study made use of the descriptive survey design which involved college students. They were chosen through proportional random sampling using the Slovens formula which from 743 population 260 of them were chosen as respondents. The 5-point scale attitude towards homoseXUals questionnaire was the main tool used in gathering data. Data gathered were analyzed using frequency counts, percentage, average weighted mean and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient using Correlation Matrix available in Microstat program. Findings: The study came up with the following findings: 1. The profile of the respondents from DMMMSU-SLUC, College of Sciences, Agoo, Community Students: 1.a. Majority of the respondents belong aged 20 and above. 1.b. Majority of the respondents were female 1.c. Majority of the respondents came from BS Mathematics 1d. Most of the respondents have a monthly income of 5,999 below described as low socio-economic status. 2. In general the attitude of the respondents towards death was 3, with a description of neutral, relative of neutral attitude towards homosexuals or there is a tendency to have a positive or negative attitude towards homosexuals in terms of sexual relationship, marriage, peer group relationship and work relationship. 3.a There existed a relationship between demographic profile of respondents specifically gender and work relationship (Le. peer group relationship, work relationship and sexual relationship b. There existed a relationship between the course of the respondents with their attitude towards marriage of homosexuals. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the study, the researchers arrived at the following conclusions: 1. Work relationship, Peer Group Relationship Sexual Relationship and gender of the respondents are relevantly correlated. 2. Course, age, and socio-economic status are considerably insignificant in peer relationship of the College of Sciences respondents. 3. Gender affects ones attitude towards homosexuals, the females have more positive attitude to homosexuals. 4. Course of the respondents affects attitude towards same sex marriage among homosexuals. BS Psychology has more positive attitude towards homosexuals, while Gender, Socio-Economic Status and age do not affect ones attitude towards homosexuals. Recommendation: 1. Even though the results show that DMMMSU-SLUC, Agoo community views homosexuals positively, there are still some students who viewed homosexuals negatively. Proper guidance should be rendered to them. 2. It is recommended that the BS Psychology department will conduct similar study to find out communities reaction and attitudes towards homosexuality, which will help retain healthy relationship towards homosexuals. 3. The guidance and counseling unit of they College of Sciences should conduct seminars and lectures on dealing with homosexual and acquiring positive attitude towards them. | |
