dc.description.abstractThe anatomical study of leaves and stem are valuable tool for understanding the biology and ecology of plants, and can provide important insights into how plants have evolved to survive and thrive in different environments. Specifically, the study aimed to characterize the leaf and stem anatomy of bignay, determine the fiber morphology of bignay in terms of fiber length, fiber diameter, lumen diameter, cell wall thickness, runkel ratio, slenderness ratio, and flexibility ratio, compare the leaf and stem anatomy of male and female bignay tree, and compare the fiber morphology of male and female bignay wood. The study was carried out using T-test experiment with three replicates. In terms of leaf anatomical features, the result showed that female bignay obtained the highest value in leaf lamina thickness (106.26 µm), upper cuticle thickness (8.52 µm), schlerenchyma thickness (49.66 µm), collenchyma thickness (68.33 µm), spongy mesophyll thickness (46.68 µm) and xylem length (32.46 µm). Meanwhile, male bignay obtained the higher value in lower cuticle thickness (6.01 µm), upper and lower epidermis thickness (49.08 & 25.58 µm), collenchyma layer (0.73 µm), palisade mesophyll thickness (22.54 µm), and phloem length (15.79 µm). In stem anatomical features, female bignay obtained the higher value in corner collenchyma thickness (139.12 µm), cortex thickness (823.61 µm), epidermis length and width (56.12 & 52.22 µm), phloem length (65.95 µm), xylem length (94.05 µm), and pith cell length (309.43 µm). Meanwhile, male bignay obtained higher value in number of cortex layer (8.17 µm). In terms of wood fiber morphology, female bignay obtained higher value in fiber length (4.55 µm), cell wall thickness (2.13 µm), runkel ratio (2.26 µm), slenderness ratio (11.29 µm), and relative density (1.09 µm). Meanwhile, male bignay obtained higher value in fiber diameter (4.39 µm), lumen diameter (2.33 µm), and flexibility ratio (53.03 µm)
