| dc.description.abstract | Due to the increasing cost of medicine for broilers, researchers are looking for cheap and locally available raw materials as substitute to commercial antibiotics. The use of organic supplements such as plant juice extract that serves as probiotics can be used as an alternate to antibiotics. Hence, this study was carried out to determine the effectiveness of plant juice extract (Moringa oleifera and Ipomoea batatas) 4, 8, 12 ml per litter of water as water additive for broilers. It was conducted at Poblacion, Bacnotan, La Union from December 30, 2015 to January 4, 2016. A total of seventy five, 14days old chicks were randomly distributed into five treatments, following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three blocks. Result of the study disclosed that the birds supplemented with different levels of plant juice extract at 4 to 12 ml per litter in the drinking water performed comparably with birds given with plain water and ommercial antibiotic in terms of final weight, gain in weight, feed consumption, cost of feed to produce a kilogram weight gain and profit above feed medicine and stock cost. Significant difference between treatments was noted in the feed conversion ratio. Birds supplemented with antibiotic are more efficient than birds supplemented with 12 ml plant juice extract in the drinking water of the birds. | |
