Abstract
The main objective of this study was to design, construct and evaluate the performance of a maguey decorticator. The design of the maguey decorticator was prepared from June to September 2015. The machine was constructed initially at San Fernando City from January 12, 2016 to February 1, 2016, and completed at Poblacion, San Gabriel, La Union, from February 2-15, 2016. Testing and performance evaluation was done on February 17, 2016 at Bumbuneg, San Gabriel, La Union. ANOVA-CRD was used to analyze performance data. Three treatments were used with three replicates each. The machine capacity, fiber recovery, extraction loss, extraction efficiency, and fiber quality were computed from data gathered for the performance evaluation of the machine. At 1850 rpm of the decorticating chamber, the machine capacity was 38.50kg/hr, fiber recovery was 3.21%, extraction efficiency was 91.04%, and the fiber quality was 2.71 which means dull white that dictates good fiber quality.
