Abstract
This study was conducted to: (1) determine the general acceptability of VCO soap against ectoparasites in dogs by dog owners; (2) determine the awareness of dog owners regarding the efficacy of VCO soap as an alternative medicine in controlling ectoparasites in dogs; and (3) determine the correlation between the selected sociodemographic profile and the selected variables in the basic knowledge, acceptability and
efficacy awareness of the respondents to VCO dog soap.
The study made use of the descriptive survey research. The study was conducted in 10 barangays in the town of Bacnotan and City of San Fernando, La Union from November 2010 to February 2011. Two hundred four dog owners who have mangy dogs were randomly selected for the interview in Questionnaires Set I.A. (Demographic Profile) and Set I.B. (Basic Knowledge about VCO Dog Soap). Ninety five respondents
were given VCO dog soap which they used in bathing their mangy dogs and answered Questionnaire Set II.A. (Acceptability of VCO Dog Soap) and II.B. (Efficacy Awareness of VCO Dog Soap) after one month.
Both sets of questionnaires were pre-tested in chosen barangays in the town of Bacnotan and City of San Fernando to 20 respondents in November to December 2010.
