dc.description.abstractA descriptive research survey design was used to gather necessary data which was supplemented by actual interview of the respondents. The data were drawn from 30 dried fish vendors who were selected randomly from Damortis and Tubod, barangay of Sto. Tomas, La Union. Results indicated that the dried fish vendors are their late 40s of age, mostly married female with 3 children. Most of them had high school graduate and few had graduated college. With the monthly income of 5,899. Main occupation dominated by vendors with [63.33%]. Other had business/industrial and LGU official with [10%]. Majority of them [26.66%] had an income range between 2,000-4,000 and 5,000-8,000. and they had an average of 8 years experience in dried fish industry. Passers buy dominated the market outlet with [53%]. Majority of them [30%} produce dried bangus bangus. Pusit is the most sealable dried fish with [40%]. Most of them [47%] use plastic as their packaging. Majority of them [70%] sale their product along the highway. Most of them [67%] buy their product in damortis pantal. They dry the fish between 5-8 hours. The problems encountered by the respondent's w/c considered serious included. Product development, Packaging development, Lack of government support, insufficient capital, Seasonality of fishing industry in La Union, and Inadequate membership to cooperative. The research recommends the following: 1. For the vendors to have sufficient capital at minimal cost, they should be considered as the potential recipients of micro-financing program of government and non- government financial institutions. Hence they need to organize themselves into a cooperative. 2. The local government of Sto.Tomas should address the problems of vendors by: a.]. Packaging must be developed b.]. Conducting training s and seminars considering dried fish c.] improving the sanitation of vendors stall d.] adopting a better lay-out of the market stall 3. Establish a dried fish cooperative.
