dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted in five selected municipalities of La Union District 1 from October 2014 to February 2015 with the use of descriptive survey research method. Majority of the respondents were women, married with a mean age of 45years old and they have an average family size of 4-6. As to educational attainment, majority were high school graduate. Mostly are farmers with an average monthly income of less than P1, 000. The production management and practices are still traditional and some enhanced with modernized means. Almost all of the respondents are using combination of commercial feeds, rice bran, homemade feeds and domestic discard to feed their native pigs given twice daily. As regards to housing, majority of the respondents use full confinement with simple housing (single span) which is made up of local materials (bamboo slats).Most of respondents practiced deworming and gave supplement, they claim that they do not encounter any problems in raising native pigs. As to the marketing practice, they sold their pigs through middlemen as per head basis (pakyawan).
