dc.description.abstractEmploying the descriptive survey research through a questionnaire this study was conducted to: (1) determine the demographic profile of native pig raiser of District 2 La Union(2) (determine the management practices of raising native pigs; (3) document the marketing system of native pig; (4) find out the problems encountered in production and marketing of native pigs. The socio-demographic profile of the respondents revealed that majority were female (67%), married 100% with a mean age of 41.6 years old. In terms of educational attainment, majority of them were high school graduate (55%) with a monthly income of below Php. 1500 below. Seventy-six percent of the respondents had 7-9 family members and were raising native pigs for more than 7 years. The management practices and marketing system of native pigs Sus scrofa showed that all the respondents engaged in piglet production, growing fattening and breeding. All respondent practice natural mating and assist their sows during farrowing and weaned their piglets at age of 2-3 months. They fed their pigs with a combination of commercial feeds and home-mixed feeds twice a day. As to health care and management, most of the respondents did not vaccinate, deworm and provide supplements to their native pigs. Medication and deworming were administered by the owner respondents. Most of the respondent dispose their pigs through their neighbor and price either by weight or per head (pakyawan).
