| dc.description.abstract | Aphids are nuisance because it does not only suck the nutritious fluid of the host plant but also carry viral pathogen. They can easily be controlled with the use of chemical insecticides. But using chemical insecticides have several disadvantages besides the fact that they are costly, and injurious to the environment. Hence, this study with the main objective of evaluating the effectiveness of Makabuhay vines, Marigold leaves, Hot pepper fruit, Lantana leaves, and Tobacco midribs as the possible alternative to insecticide. This study was conducted at the Experimental Farm of the Agriculture Department of the DMMMSU-NLUC, Bacnotan, La Union, from, October 28, 2005 to December 31, 2005, employing Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three blocks. Results revealed that the number of aphids on various test plants during the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth spraying were comparable. However, at the second and third spraying, result disclosed significant. In terms of percent mortality, the third, and sixth spraying had insignificant results while at first, second, fourth and fifth spraying significant results were found. Percent aphid mortality under laboratory conditions revealed highly significant result. However none of the fermented botanicals can substitute commercial insecticide. | |
