Abstract
This study was conducted specifically to: (1) determine the socio-economic profile of farmers; (2) determine the business orientation of farming activities; (3) evaluate the attitudes of farmers’ towards enterprising innovation and (4) evaluate the entrepreneurial competency of farmers. Using purposive random sampling, the data were drawn from 50 farmers’ respondents with the aid of questionnaire and analyzed averages, percentage, ranks and weighted mean. Findings reveal that majority of the respondents were female, had 49 years average age; 6 household size, high school education and were members of cooperative. The major considerations in transforming their traditional farming into business oriented agricultural enterprise were: the good market potential of the product, easy to produce, has a good return on investment and the product being produced by others. They sought information from seminars, technicians based in the area either from the local government of the Department of Agriculture. Among the personal entrepreneurial competencies, the farmers were inclined in goal setting, commitment to work contract, demand for quality and efficiency, self confidence, and information seeking, and poor in risk taking.
