Abstract
This study was conducted to: 1) identify the common non-infectious diseases affecting goats in Eastern Pangasinan; 2) to determine goats in Eastern, Pangasinan mostly affected with non-infectious diseases considering age: 3) determine goats in Eastern, Pangasinan mostly affected with non-infectious diseases considering to and 4) to determine the significant difference in disease occurrence between small and large goat herd in Eastern, Pangasinan. A total of 350 respondents mostly backyard goat raisers or farmers from 12 selected municipalities of Eastern, Pangasinan were interviewed using structured questionnaire during the month of August to October. Frequency counts and percentage were used to describe the results. Two- Factor ANOVA with out replication was employed to determine significant difference in occurrence of non-infectious diseases by age and herd groups. Results revealed that goats in Pangasinan were affected with non-infectious diseases. Among the metabolic diseases, pregnancy toxemia and milk fever were the most common while in nutritional related diseases diarrhea had the highest occurrence. Vehicular accident followed by strangulation was the most common mechanical and physical diseases of goats in Eastern, Pangasinan. Prevalence of diseases of small goat herd is not significantly different from that of large goat herds.
