Adviser: Tattao, Rosemarie O., MS This research investigated the effects of rearing systems and dietary supplementation on the growth performance, feed efficiency, health status, and profitability of meat-type rabbits. A total of thirty (30) growers of F1 (New Zealand White × Californian White) rabbits were randomly assigned to six treatment groups in a 2×3 factorial completely randomized design. The two factors were rearing system (cage vs. colony) and dietary treatments: T1 (15% Guinea Grass + 15% Malunggay + 70% Commercial Feeds), T2 (30% Malunggay + 70% Commercial Feeds), and T3 (30% Guinea Grass + 70% Commercial Feeds). Results indicated that rabbits reared in cages exhibited numerically better growth performance, higher feed intake, and more efficient feed conversion compared to those in colony systems, though differences were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Among the dietary treatments, T2 yielded the highest final weight and best feed conversion ratio, yet statistical analysis showed no significant effect of the diets on performance (P > 0.05). Furthermore, no significant interaction was found between rearing systems and dietary treatments. These findings suggest that while the use of alternative forages such as Malunggay and Guinea Grass can be economically viable, cage rearing remains the more favorable system for optimizing rabbit productivity. The study concludes that cage housing combined with a balanced forage commercial diet (T1) is the most effective strategy for optimizing growth performance, animal health, and profitability in meat-type rabbit production. | |
