Abstract
This study was designed primarily to conduct survey on the household sanitation practices of community stakeholders on the different barangay of Santol, La Union. A total of 300 respondents were selected from from barangay Corrooy, Mangaan, Paagan, Poblacion, Puguil, Ramot, Sasaba and Tubaday were personal interviewed with the used of prepared questionnaire. Composed of four uplands and four low lands.
This study sought to determine the following: (1) the respondent’s demographic profile (gender, age, civil status, occupation, education attainment, and monthly income); (2) illnesses/diseases encountered by respondents; (3) extent of adoption of sanitation practices by the respondents; and (4) significant difference on the extent of adoption between the upland and lowland barangay respondents.
Results showed that majority of the respondents belong to the age Bracket 40-46, males, married, elementary undergraduates and earning a monthly income of Php6,390.64; (2) The respondents affected by cough and diarrhea once a year; (3) On sanitation practices, personal hygiene was rated always adopted; the maintenance and premises in the kitchen were rated often adopted; observance on the sanitation practices in the comfort rooms were sometimes adopted while on other part of the house, sanitation practices were often adopted; while backyard and water supply were sometimes adopted; In summary, the sanitation practices were oftenly adopted; (4) A significant difference exerted between the responses of the respondents in the upland areas and that of the lowland areas on the extent of adoption of sanitation practices in comfort rooms.
