Abstract
Provincial Ordinance No. 26-2012 also known as the Iloko Code has been an instrument of language preservation in the province of La Union. This descriptive qualitative research was conducted to determine the compliance of the barangays from the second and third class municipalities of La Union to the Iloko Code particularly sections 10 and 11 as well as problems in their compliance. Survey questionnaire was utilized to gather data from the 138 barangay captains, treated with frequency counts and percentages and further substantiated by documentary analysis, key informant interview and on-site observation. The study yielded that the barangays are not compliant to Section 10 in terms of publication of ordinances, resolutions and regulations in Iloko but for Section 11, they are compliant in using Iloko in their internal procedures, customer services and public events. Compliance is affected by lack of knowledge about the Iloko Code, the Provincial Government’s failure to monitor implementation and lack of administrative resources for its implementation.
