dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted to determine the (1) profile of the aquaculture enterprises in selected municipalities of La Union, (2) production and marketing practices, (3) profitability of aquaculture enterprise, and (4) the extent of seriousness of identified problems of aquaculture. Data were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, averages, weighted mean, and ROI analysis to determine the profitability. Findings revealed that aquaculture started in 1960 that increase substantially starting 1990. Most of the aquaculture enterprises were single proprietorship and financed through personal savings with some augmentation from barrowings. Before stocking, line nets are installed at water gates and sometimes fishponds were treated with organic pesticides before stocking. Mono- cultured bangus yielded the highest volume of harvest. In terms of net income and return on investment (ROI), polyculture of Bangus- Tilapia- Kapiged was the highest. High cost of commercial feeds and low buying prices of fish harvest were the serious problems identified by the respondents.
