Performance of Okra (Hibiscus esculentus linn.) varieties intercropped with Rambutan as affected by seeding rates

dc.description.abstractThe study aimed to determine the growth, yield and net income of okra varieties intercropped with rambutan as affected by seeding rates and the growth of ranbutan during the conduct of the study at the Agroforestry Research and Demonstration Farm (ARDF), DMMMSU- NLUC, Bacnotan, La Union from December 21, 2016 to March 21, 2017. The study was laid out following the 2x3 split plot technique in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The treatments used were the following: Main plot (Variety) V1-Native and V2- Smooth Green, the Subplot (Seeding rate) S1- One seed, S2- Two seeds and S3- Three seeds Results of the study revealed that the Smooth Green variety is taller (24.10cm); shorter number of days to first flower emergence from planting (44.67 days); to anthesis from flowering (1.42 days), to pod emergence from anthesis (1.40 days), and to harvesting from pod emergence (2.30 days); longer Pods (11.20cm); higher yield per plot (1,061.70g) and per hectare (5.76 tons); and higher net income per plot (Php39.18) and per hectare (51,847.91). Than the native variety, On the effects of seeding rates, three seeds per hill is the tallest (2470cm); had the shortest number of days to anthesis from flowering (1.60 days), and to pod emergence from anthesis (1.60 days); longest pod (10.7cm); highest yield per plot (1,090.45g) and per hectare (4.71 tons); over the other seeding rates used. On the interaction between varieties and seeding rates, smooth green variety planted at three seeds per hill is the tallest (28.80cm); shortest number of days to first flower emergence from sowing (44.20 days); to anthesis from first flower emergence (1.30 days) to pod emergence from anthesis (1.30 days) and to harvesting from pod emergence (1.80 days); longest pod (11.70cm), highest yield per plot (1,168.30g) and per hectare (5.30t); and highest net income per plot (Php196.40) and per hectare of (Php974,579.09).
