Abstract
The availability of quality feeds for ruminants is a problem during dry season.
Hence, this study was conducted to determine the effects of supplementing molassestreated rice straw on the performance of dry does. It was conducted from May to July 2007 at the “Just Kidding Farm”, Burayoc, San Juan, La Union.
Nine does aged two to four weighing 15 to 18 kg were randomly assigned to three treatments using the Completely Randomized Designed replicated three times. The treatments used were:
T1 – Napier (control)
T2 –Molasses treated rice straw + Concentrate
T3 – Molasses treated rice straw + Napier
Does fed with molasses-treated rice straw and Concentrate (T2) had significantly lower feed consumption than does fed with Napier (T1) and Molasses treated rice straw and Napier (T3). The final weight, gain in weight, and feed conversion efficiency of does fed with the three treatments were comparable.
