Choosing the right variety of peanut to plant is an extremely important step in improving and increasing production and profit. Hence this study was conducted to determine which of the different varieties of peanut (IPB Pn 89-20-42, CV Pn 02-073, CV Pn 02-0132, USM Pn 1, USM Pn 3 and three check varieties (NSIC Pn 11 (NC), NSIC Pn 12 (NC) and the local check, Native Pink) would give the highest yield when planted in the experimental farm of the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Bacnotan, La Union from June 7, 2006 to September 17, 2006. The experimental area was laid out following the RCBD in four blocks. Results showed that CV Pn 02 073 significantly recorded the highest survival rate (81.00%) and heaviest fresh pod yield (1912.50 kg/ha), dried pod yield (1310.41 kg/ha), bean yield 884.37 g/ha) and weight of 100 seeds (48.50 g) but comparable to CV Pn 020132. All peanut seeds had an acceptable seed shape (oblong to oblong with flat ends), size (small to medium) and color (pinkish, tan and red). The peanut entries emerged in 5 days, flowered in 19 days and uniformly matured in 103 DAE. There were no marked differences noted on plant height and number of pods per plant of the different peanut entries evaluated.
