Abstract
This study was conducted to design, construct and evaluate the performance of the calamansi fruit-harvester. The harvester was evaluated to determine its harvesting capacity, conveying efficiency, cutting efficiency, and the overall efficiency compared to the traditional methods of harvesting calamansi fruits. The study was conducted from July 20, 2012 - February 25, 2013. It was constructed at the EKV Machine Shop, Nagsabaran Norte, Balaoan, La Union and was tested at the calamansi project field of the DMMMSU-NLUC.
The harvester has three main parts namely a) head assembly b) body assembly c) collecting assembly.
The harvester had 41.55 g/min harvesting capacity, 95.32% conveying efficiency, 89.98% cutting efficiency, and an overall performance of 85.30% efficiency.
The harvester still needs design revisions for higher performance, since it had the lowest performance.
The harvester was comparable to picking with the use of ladder. However,
calamansi farmers are safer with the harvester.
