This study was conducted at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Southern La Union Campus, Agoo, La Union from November 1, 1999 to January 8, 2000. This experimental study used the standard plate count, selective cultivation, biochemical test to determine the bacteria present in drinking water. The samples of drinking water were collected from four selected areas of Dagupan City and sold purified water. Each treatment was replicated twice. The treatment were the following: T1 = Arellano Bani (North) T2 = M.H. Del Pilar St. (South) T3 = A.B. Fernandez West T4 = A.B. Fernandez East Specifically, the study sought to answer the following problems: a.) How do bacterial count Nawasa differ from those of deep well and purified water? b.) Is there a significant different on the number of bacteria present during the months of collection. c.) How do bacteria present in Nawasa differ from bacteria present in deep well and purified water as to there morphological, cultural and physiological characteristics. d.) What are the bacteria inhabiting each source of drinking water. The following null hypothesis were tested: a.) There is no significant difference between the number of bacterial count in Nawasa, deep well and purified water. b.) There is no significant difference on the number of bacteria present during the months of collection. c.) There is no significant difference on the morphological, cultural, and physiological characteristics of bacteria present in Nawasa, deep well and purified water. d.) There is no significant difference on the bacteria present in the Nawasa, deep well and purified water. The bacteria present were identified based morphological, cultural, and physiological characteristics. Two..Way analysis of Variance (ANOVA) set at 0.01 level of significance to determine the variations among treatment means while the Duncan's Multiple Range Test was also used to determine where lies the significance among the treatments. Findings of the study were: The bacterial counts in drinking water from four selected areas of Oagupan City were highest in November but lowest December. The bacteria present in purified water regardless of the month of collection were identified as Escherichia coli and Enterobacter. In T1, the bacteria present Escherichia coli which is mostly abundant and small number of Enterobacter. In T2, the bacteria present were identified as Escherchia coli and Enterobacter. In T3, the bacteria present were identified as Escherichia coli and Enterobacter. In T4, the bacteria present were identified as Escherichia coli and Enterobacter. The bacteria identified in the samples of drinking water were Escherichia coli and Enterobacter.
