Abstract
This study was conducted to: a) identify the GI parasites affecting sheep in La Union during the rainy season, b) determine the prevalence rate of GI parasites of sheep in La Union during the rainy season, and c) determine the degree of infection of GI parasites of sheep in La Union during the rainy season.
A total of 122 sheep regardless of sex and age from 8 purposively selected municipalities of La Union during the rainy season were collected with fecal sample. Fecal analysis was conducted at the Parasitology Laboratory of the IVM, DMMMSUNLUC, Bacnotan, La Union. The data gathered were tabulated and analyzed using means
and percentages.
There were ten species of GI parasites of sheep identified in La Union during the wet season. These were, Fasciola spp., Monieza spp., Paramphistome spp., Stongyloides spp., Trichuris spp., and species of Strongyle type such as Bunostomum spp., Cooperia spp., Haemonchus spp., Oesophagustomom spp., and Trichostrongylus spp..
The prevalence rate of GI parasites of sheep in La Union during the wet season varies. All sheep utilized in the study had a light degree of infection.
