Abstract
This study aimed to enhance the class achievement of Mathayom 1/1 students of Maptaputphanpittayakam School through collaborative learning with 42 Mathayom 1/1 students of Maptaputphanpittayakam School.
A developed teacher – made test was used to determine the class achievement before and after the intervention. Mean and T-test were used in the computation of the data gathered.
Results of the study showed that students’ level of class achievement became excellent after the application of the intervention as statistically proven through a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. Hence, collaborative learning as an active pedagogy in Science is an effective tool in enhancing the level of achievement of students.
Based on the conclusions, the researchers recommend the following:
1.) (for teachers) Good education management must emphasise the quality of students, hence schools, administrators and teachers must create a “learning classroom” and design teaching and learning activities suitable for fulfilling children’s potential. It’s also recommended to the teachers to attend seminars workshops and trainings about other active pedagogies to improve the teaching – learning processes they’re engaging the learners with and so as to improve their competence as educators. Moreover, collaborative learning is highly recommended as strategy to improve the class performance and achievement of learners in Science.
2.) (for parents) Parents also play a vital role in developing a sense of inclination and passion among children towards Science education by simply guiding them with their school activities and teaching them basic science through the usage of real – life applications of those concepts.
3.) (for learners) Learners should dare to develop a sense of curiosity about science concepts for there is so much to explore in the world we are living in. Also, they should develop self – initiative and motivation to learn and they should utilize more time learning with their peers and friends even outside the classroom.
4.) (for other researchers) further studies should be conducted regarding the usage of other active pedagogies as well as conduct a longitudinal study to enhance the results of this study.
