Abstract
This study was conducted to (1) map the location of shallow groundwater resources that were used for irrigation; (2) profile the shallow groundwater resources that were used for irrigation; and (3) estimate the depth of the water table in the Municipality of Caba, La Union.
Qualitative methods were employed in the analysis of the profile for the fifteen selected shallow groundwater resources. Interview, field measurement, and geotagging were done to gather the necessary data to profile shallow groundwater resources. QGIS software was used to estimate the depth of the water table.
Out of 5 barangays, 20 % of the fifteen farmers used a shallow tube well (STW) and 80% were utilizing a shallow well. The values of 0-24 feet (about 0- 8 meters) indicate that any shallow wells can be installed and 32- 42 feet (about 9 -13 meters) were the area where STW cannot be used.
The common problem of the fifteen farmers was the inadequate water supply in their shallow groundwater resources during the dry season. Shallow tube wells (STWs) were not often used for the farmers prefer a shallow well. Results of the study show that the study area has a shallow level of the water table. Hence, installing any type of wells is advisable in the Municipality of Caba.
