| dc.description.abstract | The Philippines’ rich biodiversity is under threat, mostly from human activities, including deforestation and forest degradation, illegal fishing, and illicit wildlife trade. Unfortunately, local stakeholders, who have the greatest stake in protecting the environment and the natural resources particularly the native species therein have limited economic incentives, financial support, and capacity to manage high biodiversity. This study was conducted to determine the growth and survival of malabar chestnut seedlings (Pachira aquatica Aubl.) as affected by organic fertilizers and watering frequencies at the College of Agroforestry and Forestry Nursery, DMMMSU-NLUC, Bacnotan, La Union from February 16, 2022, to April 22, 2022. The study was laid out following 4x3 factorial experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replications. Organic fertilizers and watering frequencies were the treatments used in this study. Results of the study revealed that relative organic fertilizers application, seedlings applied with chicken manure showed the tallest height, heaviest root dry weight, and highest survival percentage; control seedlings and seedlings applied with guano dgreatesteposits obtained the greatest number of leaves; while the heaviest shoot dry weight and highest root-shoot ratio were obtained by control seedlings and seedlings applied with guano deposits, respectively. As to watering frequencies, seedlings watered every other two days got the tallest height, greater number of leaves, heaviest shoot and root dry weights and highest root-shoot ratio, while the highest survival percentage was obtained by the seedlings watered every other day. Regardless of treatments of the study, no significant difference has been observed in the result of the study. | |
