Abstract
The study aimed to compare the manual and drip irrigation methods on Honeydew melon under rain shelter condition at the Agricultural Engineering Department, DMMMSU-NLUC, Bacnotan, La Union. It was conducted at the Agricultural Engineering Rain Shelter facility. The treatments used were: T1 (manual irrigation) and T2 (drip irrigation). Data gathered include initial length of tertiary vine, rate of growth of the tertiary vine length of tertiary vine at maturity, weight, size of fruits, and sweetness. T-test was used to determine the effects of the treatments on the growth and yield of honeydew melon. No significant differences were noted between the treatments on the length of primary, secondary and tertiary vines, sweetness, size, and weight of fruits. Economic analysis showed the total expenses per hectare amounting to P316,692.00, P553,874.00 and revenue of P941,520.00 per hectare, P940,800.00 per hectare for manual and drip irrigation, respectively. When projected into a hectare of land, the estimated profit is P624,828.00 for manual irrigation and P386,926.00 for the drip irrigation. The computed return on investment was 197% on the manual irrigation and 69% on the drip irrigation.
