Abstract
This study was conducted to: (1) determine the occurrence of Salmonella Pullorum in Ilocos Sur; (2) determine the native chickens affected with Salmonella Pullorum in Ilocos Sur considering sex; and (3) determine the native chickens affected with Salmonella Pullorum in Ilocos Sur considering geographical location.
This study was conducted in nine (9) randomly selected towns in Ilocos Sur during the months of October to November 2005. Two hundred sixteen (216) native chickens were used in the study with sex and geographical location being considered. Blood samples were aseptically collected via wing vein. The serum was separated and subjected to direct serum plate test.
Based on the results derived, 37.96% of native chickens in Ilocos Sur reacted positively to Pullorum test. More female chickens reacted positively to Pullorum test than male chickens. There was no significant difference on the infection rate of native chickens to Salmonella Pullorum considering the geographical location.
