dc.description.abstractWith increase demand for food amidst the increasing costs of inputs and challenges brought about by declining soil fertility, there is then a need to explore the potential of soil conservation practices like minimum tillage and the potential of organic materials like vermicompost and Bio-n to improve soil fertility and crop productivity. Hence, this study was conducted to determine the effect of vermicompost and Bio-N as substitute to an inorganic fertilizer on the growth and yield of corn (var. Klasika F1) at Calungbuyan, Balaoan, La Union from November 23, 2015 to February 18, 2016 following the RCBD in four blocks. Result of the study showed that plants given with 100% recommeded rate (150-10-30 kg/ha) and 50% recommended rate (75-5-15 kg/ha) plus Bio-N, vermicompost or their combination obtained a comparable length and diameter of corn ear as well as ear yield and kernel yield. Plants applied with four kilogram vermicompost per linear meter recorded the smallest ear size and lowest ear and kernel yield. No significant variation was noted on plant height, days to tasseling, days to silking and shelling recovery.
