Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the growth and yield of cucumber (Var. Ambassador F1) as affected by different soil moisture depletion levels. Specifically, it aimed to determine: a) the growth of cucumber in terms of length of vine, b) the yield in terms of weight and length of the harvested fruit, and c) which of the different soil moisture depletion levels as treatments would give the highest yield of cucumber. It also aimed to find out and compare the yield per water use. This study was conducted at the Agricultural Engineering Department of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union from November 26,2013 to January 28, 2014.One hundred fifty seedlings were used in the study. The experimental area was laid-out using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five (5) treatments replicated three (3) times. Irrigation was done or applied when the following Avialable Moisture Depletion or treatments were satisfied: T1 = 38% - 42%, T2 = 43% - 47%, T3 = 48% – 52%, T4 = 53% - 57% , T5 = 58% - 62%. Data gathered were analyzed using the Statistical Procedures for Agricultural and Social Researches (SPASOR). The result of the study showed that the applied irrigation in every treatment indicates no significant effect on the cucumber’s primary vine, secondary vine, length of fruits, diameter, and weight of the fruits.
