Abstract
This research focuses on developing a Timer-Controlled Coconut Husk Carbonizer (TCCHC) to address the growing concerns of agricultural waste and inefficient biochar production. The TCCHC was designed to enhance the carbonization process through automated timer control, stable heating, and mechanical efficiency. The study aims to design, construct, and evaluate the technical performance of the TCCHC, focusing on carbonization time, yield, energy consumption, and overall system efficiency. A comprehensive cost and return analysis was conducted to determine its economic feasibility, assessing indicators such as productivity, fuel use, and output consistency. Results showed that the TCCHC can effectively convert coconut husks into biochar with high efficiency and minimal environmental impact. Trial results revealed that the system can achieve an efficiency range of 55%–65%, with productivity levels reaching up to 85.23%, and an optimal temperature of around 300°C. The system demonstrated energy efficiency, consuming approximately 300 ml of oil per kilogram of husk carbonized. This innovation has the potential to promote sustainable charcoal production, minimize agro-waste, and support local communities by offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional charcoal-making methods. Ultimately, the TCCHC can contribute to revitalizing the Philippine biochar sector and reducing dependency on unsustainable fuel sources.
