Abstract
Living alongside partners with illness is a struggle marked by hardships and difficulties that put the couple’s will and the caregiver-partner to the test. This study aimed to explore lived experiences of individuals living alongside their partners with an illness. The study used qualitative phenomenological research design to probe into the lives of couples living with their partners with an illness as they navigate their way in dealing with the illness and their relationship. Inclusion criteria were utilized to identify qualified respondents, and an open-ended interview guide was used to gather data. Through thematic analysis, results showed that couples faced financial strain from costly medications and adjustment struggles due to illness nuances. Compromise, isolation, and necessary changes were vital for relationship survival and individual well-being. Lastly, respondents took on added responsibilities to support their ill partners, enhancing intimacy as they bonded through shared struggles and developed a deeper affection.
