dc.description.abstractMost of the existing research has predominantly focused on evaluating ecological and economic values, with less attention given to non-monetary social values of watershed in the Philippines. This study determined the socio-demographic profiles of local government officials, their understanding of the local watershed, the capability of local government units (LGUs) to manage watershed services, and the perceived threats to ecosystem services through a survey. Result show that majority of the respondents are middle aged adults while young adults are lowest. In terms of gender, 71.76% are male. Most are married at 76.47% and held current positions for 1 to 10 years, and they resided for 51 to 60 years in the municipality. On-the-ground interaction and established community involvement are effective means of building ecological awareness among public servants. There is a need for clear governance structures to support more coordinated and effective resource management. Local officials place high importance on the direct benefits of ecosystem services, particularly those related to livelihood, water, and food supply. However, there is less emphasis on the indirect ecological functions such as habitat preservation and vegetation density, indicating a gap in the valuation of long-term ecological sustainability. The study highlights that the social values and perspectives of local government officials significantly influence the prioritization and effectiveness of watershed ecosystem services management in the Lower Amburayan Watershed.
