Abstract
This research aims to explore the lived experiences of family members living with
type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who are members of the Agoo Bantay Kalusugan Diabetes
Association (ABAKADA) and chosen through purposive sampling. The study was carried
out between August 2022-May 2023 utilizing descriptive phenomenology approach and
using semi-structured interviews. The researchers used Colaizzi's method for analyzing the
data.
The results showed that the family members living with type 2 diabetes mellitus
(T2DMJ experiences revealed different roles, which include providing adequate support,
preparing food as part of their daily routine, maintaining constant communication, and
providing financial assistance. Lack of discipline in adhering diabetes regimens by the
patients and financial struggles were the two identified challenges faced by the
participants. They address those trials in caring for their family member with diabetes by
accepting the problems specifically their stubbornness and seeking assistance from
significant others when it comes to financial.
