This study was conducted to determine the status of mangrove rehabilitation projects in selected areas of La Union. There were 120 respondents of the study from the four coastal barangay of selected municipalities in La Union. A set of questionnaires was distributed to the community respondents. In the study, the descriptive survey was utilized to gather data. Results showed that majority of the respondents were males, married, with a mean age of 43.88, high school graduates, earned a monthly income of less than Php 5000, living in a semi-concrete house and have been fishing for 36-40 years. The projects are government initiated. The species used for the rehabilitation is mostly propagules of Rhizophora species. Regular spacing is used. The community had a moderate level of participation during the conduct of seminars and trainings in the area. Lack of community participation and financial support is the primary problems encountered in the implementation of the project. The plantations have a survivability range of 51-75%. Mortality of the plants were primarily due to natural factors such as floods and typhoon and also due to lack of maintenance. The fish catch of the respondents had increased. Most of the respondents stated that the project made significant improvement on their status of fishing and livelihood. The project is fully accepted by the community. The issues and concerns addressed are the (a) lack of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on mangrove preservation in the area, (b) need for a sustainable technical and management support and (c) lack of financial support.
