Abstract
Acquiring proficiency in fundamental mathematical operations is crucial for a student's
mathematical development. However, many students encounter challenges in attaining
the necessary knowledge and skills in this area, particularly insufficient attention to
mastering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, which can hinder their
progress in higher-level math topics. With this, the researchers conducted this study to
analyze the effectiveness of the Chisanbop method in teaching two-digit subtraction to
grade 1pupils in a laboratory school. The study was carried out through a one-group
pretest-posttest design for the total population of grade 1pupils. The results showed an
improvement in the two-digit subtraction performance of the participants, which implies
effectiveness in improving participants' performance in two-digit subtraction. Also, the
study found a significant difference between the two-digit subtraction performances of
the participants when exposed to the Chisanbop method The significant difference
observed in participants' performance before and after exposure indicates that this
strategy can enhance students' conceptual understanding and procedural fluency,
particularly in complex mathematical operations like two-digit subtraction. These
findings have important implications for mathematics instruction, suggesting that
incorporating hands-on and finger-based learning approaches, such as the Chisanbop
method, can enhance students' performance and understanding of two-digit subtraction.
