In learning English, the ability to speak English is one of the skills that students need to master, but there are still many students who feel anxious when speaking infront of many people. This research was conducted to explore the public speaking difficulties of the ESL learners at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-South La Union Campus during the academic year 2022-2023. This study aimed to determine the factors that affect student public speaking difficulties when speaking English and how students deal with anxiety. Researchers used qualitative design. two methods are used to collect the required data, namely: class observation and interviews. Twenty students were selected as participants from first year to third year BAEL. Thematic analysis was used for the semi-structured interviews conducted with the participants. First, the data was transcribed and analyzed, and all responses that occurred at least four times were coded. The responses that occurred three times or less were discarded. From these results, themes were generated for the same codes. The researchers concluded that ESL learners experienced such public speaking difficulties particularly in speaking infront of their classmates and in an audience, they expressed how they get nervous that results them from having cold and fidgety hands, stuttering or trembling voice, an increased heartbeat and mental block. Lack of topical knowledge, lack of exposure, social anxiety, low self-esteem, spontaneous communication and communication barriers were found factors that affect their public speaking abilities. More study is needed in order to pinpoint the precise ways and certain elements that affect ESL learners.
