| dc.description.abstract | Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan L.) is a wonderful culinary plant which is recognize as one of the functional foods for its nutritional properties. The increasing cost of feeds for animal production triggers the continuous effort of researchers to evaluate available plants as feedstuff. This study was conducted to determine the effects of pigeonpea seed meal 5, 10 and 15% as feed substitute in broiler ration and to determine the profitability of using pigeonpea seed meal in broiler ration. Sixty (14 days-old) chicks were randomly distributed into four treatments in three blocks following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). There were fifteen birds per treatment. This study was conducted from August 9, 2011 to September 12, 2011 at the Poultry Project of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, Sapilang, Bacnotan, La Union. Based on the result of the study, the final weight, gain in weight, feed conversion ratio and profit above feed, medicine and stock cost of the birds fed with pigeonpea seed meal as substitute to commercial broiler starter mash was comparable. On the other hand, pigeon pea seed meal significantly affect the feed consumption of the birds. | |
