| dc.description.abstract | The study is about the Tongtong Justice System of Kankana-ey Indigenous Peoples, a traditional method of settling disputes within the community. It serves as an alternative dispute resolution through non-litigious methods like mediation and arbitration to resolve conflict. It aimed to determine the distinctive practices and how the Kankana-ey Indigenous peoples cope with the challenges in the conduct of Tongtong. A qualitative approach was utilized. It was conducted in Arosip, Bacnotan, La Union, with 16 participants. The Kankana-ey Indigenous peoples of Arosip, Bacnotan, La Union exhibit a unique and highly practiced tongtong justice system, marked by distinct methodologies and punishments including abogadillo, panagtitinawar, mangmanmanok, panagkikinnomperensia, patod, inayan, ules, mantiban, aggabo, sapata, hot water ordeal, and putik. Further, the Kankana-ey Indigenous peoples have maintained their traditional dispute resolution practices despite the difficulties encountered by the traditional justice system. This dedication extends to imparting these practices to future generations. | |
