Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the slaughter weights, carcass recovery and number of hogs slaughtered coming from different hog farms in La Union. It was conducted from October to December 2014. The number of hogs slaughtered in A and AA slaughter houses of La Union in the year 2013 was 119,595 of which 99.68 percent were fatteners, 0.18 percent were growers and only 0.14 percent are culled. Dress weight of hogs slaughtered in A and AA slaughter houses in La Union is 114.84 kilogram for culled hogs, 64.45 kilogram fatteners, and 50.29 kilogram growers. Carcass recovery of hogs slaughtered in A and AA slaughter houses in La Union is 86.5 percent for culled hogs, 87.97 percent fatteners, 81.17percent growers, 88.57 percent commercial hogs, 96.05 percent semi-commercial hogs and 85.54 percent backyard hogs. Slaughtered hogs came mostly from commercial farms (74.65%), followed by the backyard farms (24.91%) and the least was from semicommercial farms (0.44%).
