dc.description.abstractA total of 400 residents from the nine (9) selected barangays in the municipality of San Gabriel, La Union were taken as respondents in this study. It aimed to determine the extent of implementation and compliance of respondents on the implementation of solid waste management program. Informal interviews with the use of prepared questionnaire and personal observations were undertaken to gather necessary data, which were analyzed and interpreted with the used of statistical tools such as weighted means, frequency, percentage, and mean. Results showed that majority of the respondents were dominated by females 51.25 %. The largest percentage of respondents 39.5% belonged to the age bracket 32-42 years. 52.25% are married since they belonged to marrying ages. Majority of the respondents are high school graduates (26.5 %). Mostly are business men/women (38 %). Almost half of the total respondents (49.75%) have a monthly income of 1000 to 5000 and 30.75 % resides from 22 to 23 years in the locality. The Perceived Extent of Implementation of Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) in Collection, transport and disposal of waste by the respondents registered a grand mean of 3.44 which described as implemented. For waste reduction, a grand mean of 3.39 was viewed as moderately implemented. Under the recycling or reuse of solid waste had a grand mean of 3.41 and described as implemented. For information dissemination and advocacy the mean of 3.89 is described as implemented. Extent of compliance of the respondents under collection, transfer disposal of solid waste posted a grand mean of 3.25 which is described as sometimes complied. In the waste reduction, the total mean of 3.09 is described as sometimes complied. From the recycling or reuse of solid waste, the mean of 2.47 is described as seldom complied and on the information dissemination and advocacy; the grand mean of 3.83 is described as complied. There is a significant difference (1.68E-12) between external and the internal respondents in the criterion on the collection, transfer disposal of solid waste. There is no significant difference (.053) on waste reduction on both respondents. Under recycling or reuse of solid waste, significant difference is observed on the responses of internal and external respondents (.00699). A significant difference is also given by both respondents on the information dissmination and advocacy (0.0425). The grand mean of 2.60 described the problems encountered by the respondents as moderately serious.
