dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted to: (1) determine the species of gastrointestinal helminths affecting dogs in Bacnotan; (2) determine the distribution of gastrointestinal helminths affecting dogs; (3) determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminths of dog by age; (4) determine the awareness of dog owners regarding the zoonotic effect of gastrointestinal helminths in dog. Salt flotation was used to identify and determine the distribution of gastrointestinal helminths affecting dogs in relation to their age. Distribution of questionnaires was done to evaluate the owners’ awareness on their zoonotic effect. Data gathered were tabulated and analyzed using percentage analysis. Ancylostoma and Toxocara were identified gastrointestinal helminths. Ancylostoma had the highest distribution in dogs. The worm infection among several age groups was 100 percent. Few dog owners were aware that gastrointestinal helminths could be transmitted to humans. Lack of awareness about dog parasite transmission to human could increase the risks of parasitic zoonoses.
