| dc.description.abstract | The study was conducted to determine the growth performance and yield of peanuts intercropped with rambutan as affected by organic fertilizers. It was conducted at the Agroforestry Research and Demonstration Farm (ARDF) of the Institute of Agroforestry and Watershed Management (IAWM), DMMMSU-NLUC, Bacnotan, La Union from November 17, 2007 to February 15, 2008. Five thousand five hundred eighty seeds of peanut were used in the study and were laid out using the Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) replicated three times. The following treatments used were: T₀ - Control (no fertilizer application), T₁ - 240g of 16-20-0 + 460g of 46-0-0 (RR), T₂- Bio-N, T₃- 50% Bio-N + 50% RR, T₄- vermicompost and T₅- 50% Bio-N +50% vermicompost. Results of the study showed that peanut applied with Bio-N + 50% recommended rate gave the highest in all the parameters such as: fresh weight of above ground biomass (31.00 g); dry weight of above ground biomass (12.25 g); fresh weight of harvested pods per hill, per plot and per hectare (25.70 g, 4.11 kg, 2,566.67 kg); dry weight ofharvested pods per hill, per plot and per hectare (11.42g, 1.83kg, 1,143.75kg); and seed yield per hill, per plot and per hectare with respective means of (8.31g, 1.33kg and 831.25 kilograms, while the lowest was the control (no fertilizer application). However, Analysis of variance revealed no significant results in all the parameters taken despite their differences in the figures. Growth of the main crop (rambutan) resulted to a height increment of five cm and a crown increment of 5.33 cm during the 90-day period of the study. Based on the results of the study, peanut applied with Bio-N + 50% RR is recommended because of high net income obtained as compared to the other treatments used. | |
