dc.description.abstractA study on Competency Assessment of Women in Micro-enterprise Development was conducted specifically to determine the (1) demographic profile of the respondent (2) enterprise profile (3) areas and extent of involvement of women in the management of micro-enterprises (4) the level of managerial and entrepreneurial competencies of women. The data were obtained through personal interview with the aid of questionnaires from twelve municipalities (12) with ten (10) respondents in La Union. They were analyzed and interpreted using frequency counts, percentage and weighted mean. The results revealed that entrepreneurs in La Union are dominated by female aging an average of 46 and almost married with 3-4 children. Most of them were college graduate and with some college. Micro-enterprise were 5-6 & 7-8 years of operation and mostly in retail business and financed from the own savings of the owner and with 1-2 personnel. The decisions making of business were dominated by women and assumed crucial position, and actively involved in decisions, and equipped with managerial and personal entrepreneurial competencies. They are best in opportunity seeking and poor in self Sconfidence. The women were more active than men in decision making process of the business. They assumed more roles than men as registered owner, manager and cashier. The women were perceived to be highly equipped with managerial and entrepreneurial competencies. They were best in opportunity seeking but poor in self-confidence.
