The large portion of the operating expenses in swine production goes to feeds. This prompts the swine raisers to look for an alternative source of feed extender. Hence, this study was conducted to determine the performance of growing-finishing pigs fed with Trichantera leaf meal (2%, 4%, 6%) and corn grits (5%, 10%, 15%) as feed extender to commercial hog grower pellets (Gold label) and to determine the profitability of using Trichantera leaf meal and corn grits for pigs. It was conducted from July 13, 2008 to November 3, 2008 at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union. A total of 12 growers were distributed into four (4) treatments with 3 pigs per treatment. The result of the study showed that the addition of feed extender to the diets did not cause significant variation on growing-finishing pigs in terms of final weight, gain weight, average daily gain in weight, feed conversion efficiency, and profit above feed, medicine, stock and feed extender cost. However, the feed consumption of pigs was significantly affected.
