dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted to: describe profile of patients presented to government hospitals with dog bite injuries, post-exposure prophylaxis practices, ascertain epidemiological risk factors, determine the extent of problem, social responsibility of the dog owner, incidence of medical consultations and compare incidence of dog bite in 2002-2014 in La Union. The study was conducted in all government health centers and hospitals. Ten percent (337) were interviewed using a questionnaire. Descriptive survey research was used and data gathered were arranged, tabulated and analyzed using frequency count and percentages. Majority were ages 16 to 20, female, high school graduate, with family income of Php 1,001-5,000, wash with soap and water, average of four doses vaccine and anti-tetanus was administered, neighbor’s dog, unleashed, provoked, street were risk factors. More than half of dog owner were aware and accepted the responsibilities. Highest dog bite incidence was in 2014.
