dc.description.abstractSeaweeds are a good source of natural vitamins, minerals, and plant-based nutrients. Heavy metals such as Cadmium and Lead are some of the contaminants that can be found in seaweeds. This study aimed to determine the amount of cadmium and lead present in Eucheuma seaweed found in the shoreline of Almeida and Paraoir Balaoan, La Union. Seawater parameters were also gathered to perform correlation analysis to determine their relationship to the cadmium content of seaweeds. Results of the study showed that the cadmium content of cultured seaweed is not significantly different from wild seaweed. Moreover, the lead contents of seaweed were the same for the two varieties. On the other hand, the relationship of cadmium content of seaweeds to pH and salinity level of seawater in wild areas had strong and weak negative relationships, respectively. The relationship between cadmium and pH in the cultured area was moderately negative.
