Abstract
More than 70% of total expenses incurred in broiler production is attributed to feed cost and with the ever increasing price of feeds it is emperative to explore the potentials of locally and abundant feed substitute in order to lessen the cost of feeds. One amongst the most common and abundantly available is Trichantera gigantea which was used at 5%, 10% and 15% substitutes to commercial feeds. The study was conducted at Barangay Casiaman, Bacnotan, La Union from October 20 to November 24, 2014. A total of 60 heads 14-day-old broiler chicks were distributed randomly in four treatments following the RCBD in three blocks.
Results revealed that at 5 to 15% substitution, the different parameters (final weight, gain in weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio profit above feed, medicine and stock cost and cost of feed to produce a kilogram gain) were comparable with those fed with commercial feeds .
