dc.description.abstract | This study was designed to determine the yield performance of sweet potato as affected by different planting materials. Dakol Variety of sweet potato was used in this study. The treatments used were T1 stem cuttings, T2 whole storage roots, T3 storage roots cut into cubes. The treatments were replicated four times following the single factor experiment in Randomized Complete Block Design. The plots were prepared into 1 meter wide and 3 meters long with a total number of 10 ridges per plot. There were 12 plots made, in a total of 100 square meters including alleys in between blocks. Cultural practices such as weeding, and watering were done as needed to maintain the growth of the plant. The findings showed that treatments significantly affected the yield of sweet potato in terms of number of storage roots, weight of storage roots and marketable yield of storage roots. However, these treatments insignificantly affected the non-marketable yield of sweet potato. The out yielded the other treatments in terms of number of storage roots, weight of storage roots, and marketable yield of storage roots. T3 ranked first in terms of nonmarketable storage-roots. The different treatments employed were declared not significant in terms of nonmarketable yield of storage roots. Blocking was found out to be not significant. The coefficient of variation is reliable in terms of number and weight of storage roots, but is quite high in terms of marketable and non-marketable yield of storage roots. | |
