This study aimed to determine the most favorable variety and pre-germination treatments of seeds of anonas and its interaction effects. It was conducted at the Agroforestry Nursery of the Institute of Agroforestry and Watershed Management, DMMMSU-NLUC, Bacnotan, La Union, from June 14, 2013 to December 09, 2013 in two phases. Two varieties of anonas composed of 150 seeds each were used in the study and five pre-germination treatments including the control. It was laid-out using two-factor (2x5) experiment in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 10 treatment combinations replicated 3 times. The treatments used were the following: Factor A (anonas variety): V₁ (yellow variety) and V₂ (red variety) and Factor B (pre-germination treatments): T₀ (no pre-germination treatment), T₁ (seeds soaked in tap water for 12 hours), T₂ (seeds soaked in hydrochloric acid for 5 minutes), T₃ (seeds soaked in sodium hydroxide for 1 hour), and T₄ (scarified seeds using sand paper). Results of the study showed that the earliest to germinate, best performance in germination value, and percent germination, germination energy and percentage survival were the untreated red variety. Furthermore, the scarified seeds were the earliest to germinate and seeds soaked in hydrochloric acid for 5 minutes obtained the highest in percent germination. On the early growth and survival of anonas, the yellow variety had the most number of leaves produced at 60 and 120 days after transplanting, while the red variety had the most number of leaves produced before and after transplanting, at 30 and 90 days and likewise produced the tallest height. Among the pre-germination treatments used, the untreated seeds had the most number of leaves produced during and after transplanting, at 30 and 120 days and gave the tallest height during and after transplanting and at 30 days, while the seeds soaked in
